Tribute

Walter Harold Johnson passed peacefully on 9/27/22 surrounded by family. He was born in Staten Island NY on June 21, 1929, to Nils Johnson and Martha Blue. He resided in Staten Island NY until he was drafted into the Army as a paratrooper from 1951 thru 1953. After an honorable discharge he married his childhood friend Myrtle Johnson. He graduated with an engineering degree from Newark College of Engineering, now known as NJIT. He moved to Ridgewood NJ in 1972 where he became a member of the Hobbyists Unlimited for more than 20 years. He worked with Habitat for Humanity on various projects and was a member of the Westside Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood, NJ. When he wasn’t busy managing his stores, he loved to travel. He spent many summers camping with friends and family. After he retired, he enjoyed traveling the country in his camper along with his childhood friends. But his favorite place of all was his lake house on Beaver Lake in NJ. This is where he spent his summer with his boys, and inspired their love of the outdoors. His playful sense of humor will be greatly missed by all. He always had a smile and never knew a stranger.
He leaves behind his wife of 66 years Myrtle Johnson, sister Lois Michelson of Utah, brother Warren Hayes of Washington state, and the late Harold Johnson, sons Erik (Maria) Johnson of North Carolina, Evan (Tara) Johnson of New Jersey, grandchildren Christopher, Meghan, Brandon, Zachary, and grand dogs Pippen and Ozzy.
A private service will be held with a celebration of life on a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
