Thomas J. Sweeney

Thomas J. Sweeney, age 66, of Glen Rock, NJ, passed away on November 4, 2020. Devoted son of Mary Sweeney and Thomas Sweeney. Thomas Sweeney predeceased him. Loving husband to Karen Hughes who predeceased him. Brother to Joseph Sweeney and Mary Fortino. Uncle to Meagan and Beth Sweeney, and Michael, James, and Mary Fortino.

Thomas was born in Manhattan, NYC and grew up in Vienna, Virginia. He graduated from St. John’s College High School (Washington DC) in 1972. He attended St. John’s College (Queens NYC) and graduated with a B.S. in Criminal Justice in 1977. Thomas worked at St. Vincent’s Medical Center while in school and worked at Merrill Lynch from 1980 to 1982. In 1982 he became a New York City police officer. He worked much of his career at the Midtown North Precinct. He retired from NYPD in 1995 and spent the rest of his life caring for his father who passed away in 2006 and his mother. Thomas had a great love of history and politics. For all his life he kept in close contact with his many friends and family and colleagues of the NYPD.

Visiting Friday, November 13 at the Feeney Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 14 at St. Catharine’s RC Church, Glen Rock. Interment to follow at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah.

OUR VISITATION POLICY & PROCEDURES
We will allow 33 people at a time into the funeral home. You MUST be wearing a mask to enter, and masks must be worn AT ALL TIMES. Every 1/2 hour, we will clear the funeral home of guests (not family), sanitize, and reopen for 33 more guests. The sanitizing will take approximately 5 minutes each time. Inside the funeral home there are tape marks on the floor to promote social distancing, and there will be an orderly line to pay your respects. There will be a one way flow of visitors as entry is allowed only through the front door and exiting only through the back door. Once a visitor leaves they are not permitted back into the building.
