Carol, we lived in the same building on 56th Street. My mom was friends with your mom, Helen. As a kid I remember Tom pulling up in front of the building with that T Bird he had. Even as a kid, I admired him because he was willing to give a 7 year old the time of day. And he also turned me on to one of the coolest cars I ever saw in my life. I also remember your dad's Chrysler. May Tom rest in peace.

Tom Shea charmed our lives!

That’s not to say “Tom had a charmed life,” we know he struggled hard! He charmed our lives and our struggles! I can’t imagine a day spent with Tom or the thought of Tom not putting a smile on my, or anybodies, day! My life and thousands of lives were charmed by knowing and working with Tom. He was the epitome of an officer and a gentleman, of a gentleman and what a man should be. He was the best representation of a Christian lifestyle, of Irish humor, of a family man, of IBM, of what we all hope to be – better!

He was more inspiring than Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey. Tom never had the regrets nor envy of Bailey before Bailey’s enlightenment. Top Gun Tom was real, the “real deal,” (not an act) and helped so many throughout his life! I know he impacted and mentored 1,000s of IBMers in the most positive ways helping them become successful in their own right. The smartest among them, Tom was the best plan lawyer ever known, and from that developed the best strategies to make his team and company successful.

Memories: Tom in top hat and sash with shillelagh leading a parade into a month of March meeting followed by “flowing in green” marchers and bagpipers – he inspired and was raucously cheered by everyone. In the most stressful of times that could make or break a business years efforts, Tom would lighten the mood that “we weren’t facing real bullets” and would get us all back to focus on making success happen.

Tom also impacted 1,000s outside his work through his commitment to charities and community. Truly a man for all seasons!

Tom’s glow when talking about his family made us all proud of his legacy! Never overly proud, or braggart, Tom was just ebullient with that unforgettable twinkle in his eye.

Thank you for sharing yourself Tom and making us all better!

Top of a Life!

We will all miss Tom. He always had a smile and a nice word for everyone. As a Navy guy, I loved his Navy stories. He was also a loyal legionaire. God rest his soul.
