Thomas M. (Tommy) Berry, 90, of Ridgewood, NJ passed away on November 4th, 2021.
Beloved husband of Peg (nee Hevey) Berry and devoted father to daughters Maureen Berry of Dublin, Ireland and Katie Berry of Ridgewood, NJ, and sons Ed (Jeanine) & Tim (Julie) of Ridgewood, NJ; Tom (Patricia) of Bronxville, NY, and John (Ann Marie) of Wantagh, NY, and Susanne Loquet (unofficial DIL), River Edge, NJ. Loving grandfather to Declan, Laura, Liam, Emma, Spencer, Hayley, Grace, Emmett, Colleen, Chris, and Ryan and loving, unofficial grandfather to Ted and Nate.
Cherished brother of Charlie (Betty); John (Greta) and Rita and predeceased by siblings Jimmy, Eugene (Lil), Phil (Dominic), Bridie (Brendan) and Sarah (Nick). Tommy will be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews and in-laws across both Ireland and the United States.
Tommy was born in Dublin Ireland on October 10, 1931. He followed the love of his life, Peg Hevey, to New York in 1954 where they wed in St. Teresa’s Church, Woodside, Queens. They raised their six children in Jackson Heights/Woodside, NY. Tommy was a bartender in the Liffey Tavern in Elmhurst, NY for over 27 years and was well-loved by the community at large. He was known for pouring the best pint of Guinness in New York.
A wonderful memory of Tommy was his playing Santa every year both at home and at the Dublin Society Christmas parties. He was also the number one fan to his grandchildren’s interest in sports, music, and drama. He was known for leading a great singsong and enjoyed playing the harmonica and the spoons. A devoted Liverpool supporter, Tom never missed a match. He enjoyed his crossword puzzles and was an avid Jeopardy fan.
Visiting hours are on Tuesday, November 9th from 3-7 PM at the Feeney Funeral Home, Ridgewood, NJ. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 10th at 10:00 AM EST at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Ridgewood, NJ. The mass will be live streamed for those who cannot attend at www.olmcridgewood.com. Private cremation to follow.
