Roderick Schutt
September 23, 1932 ~ June 21, 2019 (age 86) 86 Years Old
Roderick Schutt passed away on Friday, June 21st. He was 86 years old. He is survived by Rose Marie, his wife of 59 years, daughters, Jean and Susan, and grandsons Ian and Zak. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Kathy Chadwick.
Rod graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1950, Brown University 1954, and Rutgers Law School in 1957. Rod married Rose Marie in 1960. He worked as a lawyer in New York City, practicing corporate law.
Rod’s civic engagement started early in his life. As a young man, he worked for Fresh Air Fund as a summer camp counselor. Rod was a politically forward thinker, supporting feminist ambitions in the mid 1900’s. He valued civil rights and appreiciated varying cultures, as his marriage demonstrated. During his professional life, Rod volunteered with Planned Parenthood of Northern NJ, where he served on the Board of Directors.
Rod’s passions included cooking, photography, and the St. Lawrence River. Upon retirement, he volunteered for 10 years cooking meals for children at a local group home under the auspices of Childrens’ Aid and Family Sevices. In addition, he volunteered his cooking skills at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, where he cooked for a number of events, large and small alike. Rod was a truly exceptional cook and he relished the opportunity to indulge and pamper his loved ones with a great meal.
A Celebration of Rod’s Life will be held on Saturday, June 29th, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at 302 Westgare Rd, Ridgewood, NJ 07450
He will be interned at the Riverside Cemetery, Wellesely Island, NY on Thursday, August 1st, 2019
