Rita McMahon, 92, of Nanuet, New York, wife of the late John McMahon, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2021 with her loving family by her side.
Rita was born one of eleven children in Kyleatunna, Kilmaley, County Clare, Ireland on May 6, 1928, the daughter of the late Bridget (nee Falvey) and John McMahon. She and her late husband originally immigrated to the South Bronx in 1958 before eventually settling in the Inwood section of Manhattan, where she raised her children. When her first two grandchildren were born, Rita relocated to Ridgewood, NJ to help care for them. She eventually retired and moved to Seton Village in Nanuet, NY.
Rita is survived by her daughters Carmel McMahon, and Patricia Inlander and her husband, Brett, all of Ridgewood NJ; her son, Patrick McMahon and his wife, Lisa Li of Manhattan, NY; grandchildren, Kyle and Jamie Inlander of Ridgewood and Vincent McMahon of Manhattan; her sister, Eileen Leogue, and brother, Michael McMahon, both of England; and numerous nieces and nephews spread across New York, Massachusetts, Ireland, England and Singapore. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Murray, Bridie O’Neill, Kitty Smyth, Elsie Mulhall, Clare Daly, Anne Hickford, and her brothers Joseph McMahon and Mattie McMahon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 9:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Ridgewood, New Jersey. Interment to follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery, Bronx, New York. Funeral Mass will also be live streamed on the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel website: https://olmcridgewood.com/
