Nicholas M. Capasso, 89, a resident of Ridgewood for 66 years, passed away on October 15, 2018. Nicholas was predeceased by his beloved wife Dorothy, as well as by his daughters Lu Ann Capasso and Jo Ann Capasso, by his brothers Anthony Capasso and Frank Capasso and his wife Linda, and by his brother-in-law Thomas Moore. He is survived by his loving son Michael and his wife Ligia, and his cherished grandchildren Michael and Nicole Capasso. Nicholas also leaves behind his dear sisters Angie D’Elia and her husband Ernie D’Elia, Carmella Capasso-Coll, and sister-in-law Marilyn Moore.
Nicholas was born in Summit, NJ to John and Filomena Capasso. He was raised in Teaneck, where his father owned a sanitation business. After graduating from Teaneck High School in 1948, Nicholas began working at Gratzel’s Bakery where he remained for 35 years. He later became the Shipping and Receiving Manager for Rexnord/Fairchild Fasteners in Hasbrouck Heights until his retirement. Nicholas was very involved in Ridgewood sports, including soccer and baseball. He was the President and longtime board member of The Ridgewood Biddy Basketball organization. He was also an avid golfer. A longtime parishioner of the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River, he was also an usher at the 5PM mass on Saturdays. Nicholas also utilized his baking and cooking talents as a volunteer for the Church of the Presentation Kitchen Ministry, and was active on the Anniversary committee baking cakes. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Hobbyists of Ridgewood.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:00 AM at the Church of the Presentation, 271 W. Saddle River Rd., Upper Saddle River, NJ. Interment to follow at Hackensack Cemetery. Visiting Friday from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM at the Feeney Funeral Home, 232 Franklin Ave., Ridgewood. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nicholas’ name to the Church of the Presentation, 271 W. Saddle River Rd., Upper Saddle River, NJ 07458 would be greatly appreciated.
