Mollie Galletly (83) died peacefully but quickly on Friday, November 22. She was born in London, England and moved to America in 1977.
Mollie’s formative years most definitely made her into the strong, caring, loving, independent woman that she became. She was full of life and energy and a true fighter, never letting Breast cancer stand in her way. Her positive outlook and strength was inspirational to all who knew her.
Mollie was a longtime member (42 years) of St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church where she was very active in many aspects of the church especially when it came to Outreach and the needs of others. Singing soprano in the choir was very special to her. Her commitment to helping others was admirable. She volunteered at The Depot for 40 years serving as a Co-Chair and chairing the successful fund raising cook book as well as other charity organizations. Mollie enjoyed nothing more than a good game of bridge or a game of any kind, gardening, cooking, knitting, and traveling. She was a Life Governor of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute in the United Kingdom.
Mollie leaves behind her beloved daughter, Mary Szurly; heartbroken family and friends in England and many cherished friends here. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald (2006) and son-in-law, Tony (2017).
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, 169 Fairmount Road, Ridgewood, NJ 07450 on Saturday, December 14 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mollie’s memory may be sent to St. Elizabeth’s Church for the Galletly Choral Scholarship Fund that allows young choristers formal choral training.
