Mary Lou Murphy, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother and aunt, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 6, 2021. She was 88.
She is survived by her husband, Richard “Murph”, her sister, Anne Hare, her sister-in-law, Joan Lawlor, her six children: Kathleen (Richard), Liz (Kevin), Peter (Lynda), John (Barbara), Richard Jr. “Chip” (Susan), and Matthew; and her 19 grandchildren and nieces, the pride and joy of her life: Savaria, Rich, Sarah, Lauren, Jake, Matthew, Marilyn, Ryan, Chipper, Caitlin, Nick, Patrick, Lizzie, Molly, Emma, Caroline, Peter, Katherine, and Julia.
She was born in Buffalo, NY in 1933, a city she loved her entire life, where she met her husband, Murph, and they were married in 1953.
The family moved from upstate New York to Glen Rock, NJ, in 1967, then moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1977, and back to Ridgewood, NJ, in 1979, which has been their home for more than 40 years.
Her greatest joy was her family. She was also a passionate gardener, known for her beautiful peonies and roses, a gourmet cook, a gifted needlepoint and crewel artist, and a lover of the arts.
Friends and family are invited to attend the wake for Mary Lou at Feeney Funeral Home, 232 Franklin Ave. Ridgewood, NJ on Friday, December 10, 2021, from 4-7 PM. A Requiem Mass for Mary Lou will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Ridgewood on December 11, 2021, at 11 AM where all are welcome. A burial immediately following will be held at MaryRest Cemetary, 770 Darlington Ave, Mahwah, NJ 07430.
