Mary C Hayes

May 10, 1950 ~ November 15, 2018 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Tribute

Mary C. Hayes passed away on Nov. 15, 2018 surrounded by her husband and children. Mary was born on May 10, 1950 in Jersey City, New Jersey, the daughter of Charlie and Julie Maresca. She grew up in a home full of love and siblings, with four brothers and two sisters, as well as numerous uncles and aunts.

Mary was always outgoing and social as she collected friends from all walks of life, starting at her high school of Holy Family. One of the people she encountered, Edward Hayes, became her boyfriend and, after they developed a deep love for each other, her husband when they married on October 30, 1971. Mary and Edward moved to Waldwick, NJ a few years after their marriage, where they raised their family.

Mary was passionate about many things in life, including baseball, traveling, reading, and helping others. She was an avid New York Yankees and Don Bosco High School sports fan, and loved following her teams. Mary was also an exceedingly generous person, giving of her time and resources throughout her life. She volunteered with the Junior Women’s Club and Meals on Wheels. Mary was a devout Roman Catholic, serving as a eucharistic minister at her home parish of St. Luke’s Church in Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey.

Mary was best known for her love of family and friends, however, with whom she was happiest when she could simply spend hours talking about life, local sports, books, church, and current events. Mary’s favorite place to go was Long Beach Island, where at least annually she spent time with friends while enjoying the beach and good seafood. She could spend hours talking and laughing with friends, yet was also known as a pillar of support and a source of honest advice during times of need, no matter how great or small the need.

Mary, above all, loved her family and was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She was known in the family as one of the organizers of family get-togethers and had a special knack for making everyone feel welcome and included. Mary adored spending time with the latest addition to her family, her grandson, Stephen. Indeed, she enjoyed an early Thanksgiving weekend with her immediate family, which included chasing her grandson up and down the staircase of her son’s new home.

Mary is survived by her husband, Edward Hayes, Sr., her daughter, Erin Hayes, her old son, Edward Hayes, Jr., and his wife Kristina Miles-Hayes and their son, Stephen Hayes, and her youngest son, Brian Hayes and his wife Gianna Hayes.
