Laurence Jerome Hanlon, age 80, of Ridgewood, NJ, died Monday June 5. Born in Bronxville, NY, he was the son of the late Harry Hanlon and Winifred (Collins) Hanlon. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary (nee Cannon) and three children, John of Wayne, NJ, Peter and Kim (Maggi) O'Hanlon of Herndon, VA, and Adam and MaryKate (Hanlon) Hughes of Falls Church, VA; 6 grandchildren, Jake, Winnie, Patrick, and Tommy O'Hanlon and Maura and Molly Hughes; and dozens of cherished nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother, John L. Hanlon, of Southampton, NY. He is predeceased by 2 brothers, Harry and Eddie, and a sister, Winifred (Hanlon) Moynihan.
After serving in the United States Marine Corps for four years, Larry earned his bachelor's degree from St. John's University and his M.B.A. from Pace University. He taught high school for a brief period and then spent the remainder of his career working in IT services. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Ridgewood for 42 years, and a member of The American Legion, The Knights of Columbus, and Hobbyists Unlimited.
Larry will be waked on Tuesday, June 13 at Feeney Funeral Home from 1:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-9:00 p.m. at 232 Franklin Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ. Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 1 Passaic Street, Ridgewood, NJ. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, NY. Donations can be made in memory of Larry Hanlon to the Department for Persons with Disabilities (DPD). DPD is a nonprofit organization that helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
