Kenneth J. Karole, 63, died suddenly on November 26, 2018 at his home in Ringwood, NJ. The loving son of John J. Karole and the late Jean Brewster Karole, Ken was born on January 7, 1955. A devoted father, Ken leaves behind his children, Katherine Karole of NYC and Thomas Karole of Glen Rock, NJ and their mother, Theresa, of Glen Rock, NJ. Ken is a graduate of Bergen Catholic High School and Seton Hall University.
Whether describing Katie’s basketball prowess and business savvy or Tom’s hockey skills and guitar playing, Ken loved to brag about his children, describing them as “the real deal.” Although he grew up in Bergen County, his heart was at the beach; and his love for family was evident in the beautiful oceanfront house he wanted everyone to enjoy. His childhood vacations at the Jersey shore nurtured his love of the ocean, fishing, and boating. A skilled boatman, and generous beyond words, he never hesitated to invite anyone to go fishing or take a cruise. He loved to regale us with his stories of that monster bluefish or the whale he saw in the lower harbor.
Ken loved sports from all angles --- playing or watching or insuring. Passionate about music, Ken played his guitar and loved jamming with his son and brother-in-law. A longtime Grateful Dead fan, Ken traveled widely to see the band; hopefully now he’s picking some tunes with Jerry.
Whether playing a round of golf on a championship course, dining at a five-star restaurant, or fishing with his brother in the Florida Keys, Ken lived his life with fervor; a friend to many, he filled any room he entered. Never missing an opportunity to tell a joke, Ken liked to say that he wouldn’t “let the truth get in the way of a good story.”
Ken was founder and owner of Eagle Risk Management Co. and Partners in Risk Control, Inc. His incredibly broad knowledge of risk management made him a vanguard in the industry.
Among all his treasures in life, Ken most valued his family. He was the spark plug for countless family reunions down the Shore, and we could always count on Ken and his keyboard for a round of Christmas tunes.
He is also survived by his siblings: Susan Karole Reisman (Michael) of Southington, CT; Jean Marie Karole Nugent (Vincent) of Hurley, NY; Thomas Karole (Anya) of Southern Shores, NC; Nancy Karole Kennedy (David) of Ridgewood, NJ. He will be missed dearly by his nine nieces and nephews, two grandnephews, many cousins and their families.

Like the “ripple in still water,” the impact of Ken’s life and kindness radiated far and wide. His passing is acutely painful, but his memory will endure. “Fare you well, fare you well, I love you more than words can tell, Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul.”
