Vrana, Joseph J., 93, a Ridgewood resident for 50 years, passed away on January 19, 2018. Beloved husband to the late Margaret. Loving father of John Vrana and his wife, Betty; Margaret Ciorciari and her husband, Tony; Carol Tikkanen and her husband, Paul; Judy Way and Frank Vrana. Adoring grandfather of 13 and great-grandfather of 10.
Joseph honorably served in the U.S Army during WWII with the 311th Infantry Regiment, 78th Lightning Division in the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), Central Europe, Northern France and Rhineland (Battle at Remagen). He was a Chemical Warfare Officer.
His Honors and Awards include Bronze Star Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat Infantryman Badge, Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Award with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, and New York State Conspicuous Service Cross.
Joseph was an active member of the American Legion, H.I.L.T. and the Hobbyists Unlimited Club. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening and playing golf.
The funeral Mass will be Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with interment to follow in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.
