Joan Ann Rick

Joan Ann (Morley) Rick of Midland Park, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 31st, 2018 at the age of 82 surrounded by her adoring family.

Born in Astoria, NY, Joan was a devoted wife to Donald C. Rick for 60 years. She graduated with honors from Mary Immaculate Hospital School of Nursing in 1956 and served as class president there and in high school. She and her husband resided in Ridgewood, New Jersey for more than half a century.

Joan leaves six children: Barbara Rick and her husband Jim Anderson, Therese and Daniel Sutherland, Janet and Mike Farley, Donald J. Rick and Kelly Coakley-Rick, Mary Ann and Michael Hart, and Nancy and Eric Moore.

Joan delighted in her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Kristin and Mike (Sophia, Melina, Gabrielle) Brian and Mallory (baby Sutherland/Ketterer due in June), Rachel (Adrianna, Ellie), Sara, Robert, April, Andrew, John, Robert, Christopher, Shannon, Kelly, Emily, D.J., Mary Kate, Maeve, Maggie, Ryan, and Patrick.

Joan is pre-deceased by her parents, John and Cecelia Morley of County Mayo, Ireland and her seven elder siblings. She’s a beloved aunt to scores of nieces and nephews. Retired for many years, she served as a receptionist at Baldino and Friedland Medical Offices in Wyckoff, NJ and was the primary bookkeeper for Dolphin Construction, Inc.

Joan is fondly remembered as a champion for social justice, a glorious cook, a soprano soloist, and a formidable Scrabble player. An avid reader, Joan was a staunch supporter of public television and is best remembered for her magical Irish soda bread, her love of bagpipes, and her shining Irish smile.

Visiting Tuesday April 3rd 7-9pm and Wednesday April 4th 2-4, 7-9 at Feeney Funeral Home, 232 Franklin Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Nativity RC Church in Midland Park, NJ at 11 o’clock on Thursday April 5th. Interment to follow at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ.
