Jill Kaat Kandel, 55, of Ridgewood, passed away in her home on Friday, March 5, 2021 surrounded by her family and friends after a courageous four month battle against cancer. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Sunday, August 29, 1965 to Jim Kaat. She graduated from Westtown High School in West Chester Pennsylvania in 1983, where she was a multi-sport athlete, lettering all three years in field hockey and swimming and, in typical style, participated in both track and lacrosse as a personal challenge. She was always a leader in the classroom and in the Westtown community. After high school, Jill attended Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1987 with a major in mathematics. While excelling academically, she also spent time tutoring other students and working at Filling’s Clothing.
After graduating from Franklin & Marshall College, Jill worked in the fashion industry for over three decades. Most recently Jill led her own business consulting firm, focused on brand building and sales enhancement. While her successful career spanned over 30 years, she made it clear her finest achievement and biggest joy in life were her three children Brendan (23), Tanner (21) and Casey (19), who she shared with former husband Peter Kandel. Jill built her life in Ridgewood, New Jersey raising her three children and actively participating in the Ridgewood community.
Determined, loyal and generous, she took a genuine interest in others and was always willing to lend a hand to friends and strangers alike. Her quick wit, adventurous spirit and contagious laugh were a delight to all who were lucky enough to share her life. A fitness enthusiast who constantly embraced any challenge, Jill loved running, biking and swimming, with her proudest accomplishment being the 2000 New York City Marathon. Her favorite times were those spent with family and friends, loving long dinners and time outdoors, preferably on sunny days by the sea. Never hesitant to add a plate to her table or extend a glass of wine, her door and heart were always open. Family was paramount in everything she did and her love for her friends made them family.
Jill is survived by her beloved children Brendan, Tanner and Casey and her dad Jim Kaat. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who knew her, especially her family, including siblings, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.
