Jamil Hanna Eliya

Passed in peace Sunday November 7, 2021 at the age of 104. Preceded  in death by his wife Wadad, his brothers Andrawos, Philipos, Suleiman,
Abdulahad, Benyamin, Mousa and sisters Nijmi and Leah overseas in Syria.  Loving father of Sami and Nada Nicole Wood, grandfather of Carol, James, Helen, Steven and Youssef, father in law of Diane and George and dear uncle of over 300 nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces. Jamil’s life was a journey through 4 countries, born in Azekh in today’s Turkey, moved to Aleppo Syria, then to Sidon Lebanon and finally settled in Ridgewood NJ, his home for the last 45 years.  He was a graduate of the American University of Beirut, an educator by training in Presbyterian mission schools in Aleppo and Sidon in the late 50s until the early 70s before immigrating with the family to USA in 1976 where he opened a men’s clothing business for 10 years then subsequently retired from Macy’s in 2011 at the age of 93.  Jamil loved his family, his Ridgewood First Presbyterian church and church choir. He enjoyed the company of his extended family and people from all walks of life, leaving an impact on the young, the old and everyone in between.  

Wake and visitation November 10, 3PM-7PM Feeney Funeral Home 232 Franklin Ave, Ridgewood, NJ
Funeral Service November 11, 11 AM First Presbyterian Church, 722 E. Ridgewood Ave, Ridgewood, NJ 
Followed by interment at Valleau Cemetery, Ridgewood and a repast at Biagio’s 299 Paramus Rd, Paramus, NJ
