James Oscar Youngberg (“Oscar”) of Ridgewood, New Jersey passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday February 28, 2021. Oscar was born in the Fordham section of the Bronx, NY to Mr. Joseph Youngberg and Mrs. Elizabeth Youngberg. The Youngberg family moved from the Bronx in the late 1960’s where they settled in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Oscar attended the Ridgewood High School, graduating in the class of 1973.

Immediately following High School, Oscar enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a Military Policemen in Augsburg, Germany. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Oscar joined the Ridgewood Police Department in 1978 as a patrolman where he served with honor and distinction for twenty-seven years.

Oscar married Karen Gage, of Ridgewood, on May 12, 1979 and settled in Ridgewood to raise their two adored sons, Joseph and Peter.

Oscar is survived by his wife Karen, his sons Joseph (Kerianne Egan) of Glen Rock and Peter (Meaghan Hillmann) of Midland Park; his beloved grandchildren: Bryan, Grace, Connor, Brayden, Brendan, Leah, and Brianna; his sisters Katherine and Elizabeth (James Varetoni); Father-in-law Thomas Gage; brother-in-law William Gage; and many adored nieces and nephews.

Oscar was pre-deceased by his mother and father; his brothers Joseph and Charles; his mother-in-law Elizabeth Gage; and his brother-in-laws Peter Gage and Seamus Lynam.

The family will be holding a private service and have requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Oscar’s name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital (stjude.org) or The Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org).
