Helen Sullivan

January 30, 1925 ~ December 1, 2019 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Tribute

Helen Sullivan died peacefully at her home in Ho-Ho-Kus, on December 1, 2019, just 2 months shy of her 95th birthday.
She was a California girl born to Frances Muir and Hugh Reynolds Pomeroy.  She moved east with her beloved husband, Denis (deceased 2004), who she met at a ladies club dance while he was stationed in California with the Marines during WWII.  They married after he returned from the Pacific.
She is survived by her daughter Mary Frances and husband Jeremiah Mahony, granddaughter Caitlin and husband Andres Romero, and 3-month old great-granddaughter Cassandra Elena.
She was an only child with 5 half siblings, Beatrice and Wesley (deceased) and Diane, Carol and Reynolds.
Denis and she loved music, especially jazz, travel and entertaining friends and family. They made many trips to Ireland, connecting with relatives and meeting new friends across the country.
She was the original pre-computer data manager, keeping files of articles and information which she would photocopy (many copies!) and carefully annotate to whom she sent copies.
As she got older, she realized she should remain active but hated exercise. She started walking in the morning and to keep her interest up, she would walk neighbors' newspapers from the end of the driveways to the front doors. The family called it her paper route.
She held on to her car and drove into her 90's, much to her family's concern.  It was a sad day for her when she no longer chugged down the road in her 1983 diesel with the speedometer that didn't work ("I just go with the traffic").
Her family would like to thank the therapists and nurses from Valley Home and Hospice who aided in her treatment in her last few months.  And At Home Companions for connecting her with Victoria Obe, Dorothy Drake and Veronica Sealey, who took such loving care of her.
