Gerard X. Shea of Pompton Plains, New Jersey passed away on December 7, 2021. He was 88 years old.
Jerry was born on December 28, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from St. John’s University with a bachelor's degree in English. After graduating from university, he joined the United States Customs Service and served there as Import Specialist until his retirement in 1999.
He was a devout Catholic, an avid reader, a happy hiker. He walked to daily mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel (OLMC) in Ridgewood, New Jersey where he lived for 45 years. He served as a eucharistic minister at OLMC and offered communion to the residents of local nursing homes. He was also a member of the Perpetual Adoration Eucharistic Ministry; as an Adorer he would sit in the Adoration chapel to keep the door open to anyone seeking peace and to worship the holy Eucharist.
Jerry is survived by his wife Catherine Shea of Pompton Plains; his three children Gerard Shea (Madoka), Maureen Shea (Ken), and Julia Shea (Rick). In addition, to his wife and children, he is survived by his two beloved grandsons Jake and Dillon Shea. He is predeceased by his sister, Marianne Sutton.
The funeral mass will be at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Our Lady’s Chapel, 1 Passaic Street, Ridgewood, NJ 07450 at 10 am on Monday, December 13.
