Filomena T. Scivoletti

Filomena (“Nana”) Scivoletti, 94, of Paramus, passed away on May 8, 2018, with her family by her side.  She was predeceased by her cherished husband Peter Scivoletti, Sr., as well as her brothers Michael, Thomas, and Anthony Refolo.  Filomena leaves behind her beloved and devoted son, Peter D. Scivoletti and his wife Florence of Paramus.  Adoring grandmother of Nicole Anne Polan, and her husband Erik, of Cherry Hill, NJ, Peter Scivoletti of New York, NY, and Daniel Scivoletti and his wife Erin of Thousand Oaks, CA.  Dear great grandmother of Alexander Polan, Wyatt Scivoletti, and Luke Polan.  Nana was treasured by her many nieces and nephews, who were all her favorite.

Filomena was born to John and Nicoletta (nee Cossa) Refolo in Jersey City, NJ.  She was a gifted seamstress, beginning work at the age of 17, and was a member and chairperson of the International Ladies Garment Workers of America.  She made all of the garment samples, which others copied, because her work was so precise.  This talent, along with her creativity and artistic eye, allowed her to hand make and repair clothing for her entire family, including gorgeous special occasion outfits. 

Filomena was a longtime parishioner of The Church of the Annunciation, Paramus.  She shared a special connection to her favorite saint, St. Jude - always praying to him to help her family and friends.

Nana loved being with her family.  She was the matriarch, and kept all branches of the family together by staying in touch with everyone. One of the many ways she showed her love was through her food.   Nana was an exceptional cook and she took pride in every meal she made for her family.  Her joy was apparent in her smile while she watched her family eat her famous cheesecake, rice pudding, and gravy.  Although her family will miss her dearly, she will remain in their hearts forever.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday 10 AM at The Church of the Annunciation, 50 West Midland Avenue, Paramus, NJ. Visiting Friday 4-8 PM at the Feeney Funeral Home, 232 Franklin Ave., Ridgewood.  In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in Filomena’s name would be greatly appreciated.
