Eugene Coleman Thomas of Ridgewood, NJ died on April 10th, 2020.  He is survived by his beloved daughter, Jacqueline Thomas-McClendon and son-in-law Jeff McClendon of Plantation, FL; his three cherished granddaughters, Brianna, Alexia (Kurt Joseph), and Cheyenne; his brother, Richard Thomas and sister-in-law Barbara Thomas of Ridgewood, NJ; his sisters, Estelle Tinsley of Paterson, NJ and Arlene Lewis of Paterson NJ; sister-in-law Mary Thomas of Paterson NJ; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Eugene, widely known as “Jean,” was born in Hackensack, NJ to Willie and Etta (Reed) Thomas on March 23, 1942, and grew up in Ridgewood, NJ. He graduated from Ridgewood High School. He was well known in the dry cleaning business for over 40 years from Midland Park to Ridgewood, and was last employed at Gracie Cleaners in Glen Rock, NJ. Jean was an avid church goer and spread his glorious voice through Gospel in his early years at AME Zion Church in Ridgewood, NJ, and later at the Mt. Bethel Church of Ridgewood, NJ. Around the year 2011, Jean broadened his renowned talent into Rhythm & Blues after discovering his music from the 60’s was still holding strong in the UK. He was able to live out his dreams while spreading love through song.

Jean’s love for cooking and baking his famous pound cakes goes hand in hand with the love he had for his town. Ridgewood was his home and all of his neighbors were family. If there was an event, Jean was there! Not only did Jean’s presence make you want to dance, but his infectious smile, beautiful spirit, and famous saying “That’s Okay!” made all who came into contact with him feel joy and happiness. He will deeply be missed by his family, friends, and The Village of Ridgewood.
