Ellen Marie Stanton

November 17, 1946 ~ November 25, 2022 (age 76) 76 Years Old

Tribute

Ellen Marie Stanton (76) of Hawthorne, NJ (previously of Cresskill, NJ) died peacefully on Friday, November 25th surrounded by her son, daughter in law and two youngest brothers.

Most of her career was working for the Board of Education as a bookkeeper but what she enjoyed most of all was her retirement. She was a loving Dog Mom; she adopted her beloved Bailey, a beagle in 1996 after her son brought Bailey home as a puppy. She spent her days at her son, and daughter in law’s home, taking care of her two grandpups; walking them around the neighborhood and chatting with the neighbors. She most certainly was a social butterfly in the neighborhood because people would stop their cars to say hello or walk out of their homes to talk to her as she walked by. She also loved to have lunch with her dear lady friends; both childhood, longtime friends and co-workers who revered her as a sister and confidant.

She was a fiercely loyal, independent, and sometimes stubborn woman, but she had the biggest heart on the planet and would drop what she was doing for anyone in her life. She was caring, kind, social, humorous and she loved watching Animal Planet’s TV programs. Her love of all animals was far beyond words.

She is predeceased by her twin sister Linda and her eldest brother, George Stanton along with her parents, George and Mary Stanton of Cresskill, NJ and also her cherished Beagle, Bailey. Surviving family members are: James C Stanton, son and Daughter in Law, Jamie Stanton (nee Leskanic) and her two grand Pups Georgie & Mouse Stanton of Waldwick, NJ; brother Bill Stanton and wife Dana and niece Billee of Tenafly; brother John Stanton and wife Joan and nephew Bryan Stanton and wife Laura; nephew Gregory Stanton and niece Jill Stanton of Emerson; brother Thomas Stanton and niece Mary Stanton of New Milford; and countless friends who the family would like to thank for being such a special part of her life.

Ellen’s presence is missed tremendously. The family will be planning a Celebration of Life for Ellen in the Spring of 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for any donations to be made to a local Animal Shelter or Animal Rescue in her memory.
