Donald C. Rick of Midland Park, NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2019 at the age of 88 surrounded by his adoring family.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Don was the beloved husband of the late Joan A. Rick for 60 years. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Tech, Fordham University, and New York University and was a lifelong educator, serving as an industrial arts teacher at schools throughout New York and New Jersey. He also led woodworking seminars and mentored many students and adults throughout his lifetime. He also served in the Army during the Korean War for the country he loves.
Retired for many years, he and his wife resided in Ridgewood, New Jersey for more than half a century.
Don leaves six children: Barbara Rick and her husband Jim Anderson, Therese and Daniel Sutherland, Janet and Mike Farley, Donald J. Rick and Kelly Coakley-Rick, Mary Ann and Michael Hart, and Nancy and Eric Moore.
Don delighted in his many grandchildren and great grandchildren: Kristin and Mike (Sophia, Melina, Gabrielle) Brian and Mallory (Fern Bea) Rachel (Adrianna, Ellie), Sara, Robert, April, Andrew, John, Robert, Christopher, Shannon, Kelly, Emily, D.J., Mary Kate, Maeve, Maggie, Ryan, and Patrick.
Don is pre-deceased by his parents, William C. Rick and Theresa Stecher Rick of Ridgewood and his elder brother Bill. Don’s a beloved uncle to scores of nieces and nephews.
Don is fondly remembered as a highly spiritual, devoted family man dedicated to social justice, a gifted woodworker, and one of the most vocal and persevering fans the New York Giants have ever had. They, too, will miss him.
Visiting Monday November 25th at 2-8pm at Feeney Funeral Home, 232 Franklin Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Nativity RC Church in Midland Park, NJ at 9:30am on Tuesday, November 26th. Interment to follow at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ.
