Donald (“Don”) Michael McCarty, 74, of Wayne, NJ passed away at home on March 15, 2022.
Don was born on January 12, 1948 in Santa Rosa, CA to Maurice (“David”) and Gladys (nee Roberts) McCarty. Don had four loving siblings: Carol, Dennis, Kathy, and Kim. Growing up, the only thing he loved more than torturing his brother Dennis was playing sports — including baseball, basketball, and football.
Don attended Santa Rosa High School, where he continued his illustrious sports career, was elected Class President, and managed to make getting a perfect score on the SAT look cool. He then attended California State University, Los Angeles, where he studied Fine & Studio Arts, played varsity baseball, and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
Don fell in love with art and spent much of his life working in creative fields, including as an illustrator, photojournalist, and graphic designer. His love of art led him to the entertainment industry, and he spent 20 years working as an audio engineer at Masque Sound, from which he retired in 2012. He was a proud member of IATSE Local 632. Additionally, he worked as audio crew on many Broadway productions, such as Les Misérables, Miss Saigon, The Boy from Oz, and Billy Elliot.
Don is survived by his two loving daughters, Hannah Jane McCarty of New York, NY and Elizabeth (“Ellie”) Corcoran McCarty of Stuttgart, Germany; brother Dennis McCarty (Kathy Rose); sister Kim McCarty; brother-in-law Michael (“Mike”) Fish; nephew Marc McCarty (Derekca) and their sons Alec and Maximo; nephew Greg Fish; niece Tracy Fish Haro; and dear family friend Sylvia Brown. He is predeceased by his parents, David and Gladys McCarty; his sister Carol Fish; and his sister Kathy Ann McCarty.
Visitation will be held at Feeney Funeral Home at 232 Franklin Ave in Ridgewood, NJ from 6-9 PM on Friday, March 18th. Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 722 E Ridgewood Ave in Ridgewood, NJ at 11 AM on Saturday, March 19th.
