Ann M. Craven, 90, of Ridgewood passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. Ann was born in Jersey City, N.J. and lived there until her marriage to William J. (Bill) Craven in 1967. They resided in Passaic before moving to Ridgewood in 1979. Ann was a proud resident of Ridgewood for 35 years and an active communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel during that time. More recently, Ann was living at The Cupola and Care One in Paramus.
Ann was a constant in the lives of her family, ensuring that she was present for every important event or milestone for those that called her daughter, sister, wife, aunt and great aunt. Ann was a highly spiritual and faithful person who dutifully put the needs of others before her own. She volunteered many years of service to The Missionaries of Charity in Newark and Eva’s Community Kitchen in Patterson. Ann spent many nights making sure that others in need didn’t go hungry or weren’t left in the cold. She, along with her husband Bill, supported many young men and women in their calling to become priests and nuns in the Roman Catholic faith.
Ann earned her Bachelor‘s and Master’s degree in Education from Seton Hall University. She was a dedicated educator, who taught History at Riverdell High School in Oradell for 37 years from 1958 to 1995. Ann was committed to her students and proud to have had an impact on their learning. An avid newspaper reader, Ann spent many hours after retirement finding relevant articles and other artifacts that would help others in their pursuit of teaching and learning goals.
Ann was a devoted wife, a wonderful sister and sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt, cousin and friend. She will always be loved and forever missed by each life that she touched during her time here on Earth.
Ann was predeceased by her husband William J. (Bill) Craven in 2018, her parents John and Anna McGrath, her brothers John (Jack) and Joseph, and her sister Dorothy Collins. She is survived by many nieces, great nieces and great nephews, her brother-in-law Charles Collins, and many cousins.
A visitation will be held at the Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood on Thursday 11/16 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be on 11/17 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Ridgewood. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Ann to:
