Alexander J. Leonowiz

Alexander J. Leonowiz, 93, of Paramus, NJ was called home by the Lord, Friday, December 13, 2019. He passed away peacefully after a brief illness.

Alex was born in Ridgefield Park, NJ to Alexander and Judy Leonowiz on April 12, 1926 and graduated from Ridgefield Park High School. While employed at the Watson & Flagg Machine Company, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he completed Armed Guard School in Norfolk, Virginia. While completing Sea Service in World War II In the Pacific, Alex was awarded the American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, European Theater Medal and Victory Medal.

After returning home, he met his bride-to-be Jeanie, and they married in 1948, started a family and became active members in the Paramus community enjoying their friendships in the Polish American Citizens Club and the Annunciation R.C. Church.

Alex’s vegetable garden was the predecessor of what is now called the community garden, bountifully feeding the neighborhood. Hunting and fishing were his favorite activities enjoyed in the company of others, especially with his son, Mark.

Alex is preceded in death by his beloved wife Jean of 63 years; his parents Alexander and Judy, and sisters Emily and Eugenia. He is survived by his two children; Joyce Gonzalez and Mark Leonowiz, his son-in-law Eugene Gonzalez, and his grandchildren; Alexander Gonzalez and his wife Julie, their three sons (great-grandsons) Sebastian, Caleb and Asa; his grandson Nicholas Gonzalez and his wife Monika. Alex is also survived by his nieces Andrea, Judy, Linda, Leslie and Susan; and nephew Gilbert.

The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to the caring doctors, nurses and staff at The Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, NJ and the community of caring at DellRidge Health and Rehabilitation Center, Paramus, NJ, especially especially ❤ to Nurse Carmelo and Nurse MaryBeth.

A wake will be held at the Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood, NJ (201-444-7650) Tuesday, December 17, 2019; 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.; 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and a funeral Mass held Wednesday, December 18, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at the Annunciation RC Church, 50 W. Midland Avenue, Paramus NJ.
