Francis X. Nolan

Nolan, Francis Xavier, 96, formerly of Ridgewood, NJ, passed away peacefully at The House of the Good Shepherd, in Hackettstown, NJ on March 2, 2017.
Frank was born and raised in Clifton, NJ.  Preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Harriet Nolan, and three siblings, Edward Nolan, Eileen McNally and Eugene Nolan.  Frank graduated from St. John’s Cathedral High School in 1941.  He served in the United States Navy in WW II as a Boatswain Mate Second Class.  He was Honorably Discharged in November, 1945.  Frank began his career as a Firefighter for the Village of Ridgewood in 1957.  He moved his family to Ridgewood, NJ in 1958.  Frank retired in 1984, after 27 years, as the Fire Chief and Director. 
Frank was an extremely loving and devoted husband to his wife Helen, for 49 years.  Helen preceded him in death in 1997.  He is survived by four children, Gail Rosa and her husband Paul Rosa, of Hackettstown, NJ.  Deborah Hillmann and her husband Tom Hillmann, of Wyckoff, NJ.  Bill Nolan and his wife Margaret Nolan, of Raleigh, NC.  Barbara Jean Jones and her fiancé Ted Carnevale, of Oradell, NJ.  He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. 
Frank’s second love was being on the golf course with his friends, son and grandchildren.  He played the majority of his golf when he was younger, with his lifelong friend, Leo Harrington.  After moving to Crystal Springs Golf Club in 1997, Frank played his final rounds with his closest friends, Jimmy Dean and Tom Noonan.  He played golf up until the age of 91.  
Frank’s smiling Irish eyes, unique giggle and his love for his wife, family and friends, will be dearly missed. 
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church, 1 Passaic St., Ridgewood, with interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson.  The family will receive friends on Sunday 2:00-6:00 PM at the Feeney Funeral Home, 232 Franklin Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ 07450.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to the St. Jude Foundation, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN  38105 (stjude.org).
